Restaurants in #California might have felt like it was déjà vu all over again.

As operators there are likely aware, they and their allies were ready to overturn the Public Attorneys General Act, a much-hated state law, through a referendum in the next general election. On Tuesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom diverted the effort by brokering a deal among the key stakeholders for an alternative course. No one says they’re ecstatic about the compromise agreement, but it does make them less unhappy.

Franceen Friefeld, RD, LD, Ph.Ed., CEO and board chair of The Foodservice Wellness Institute is a freelance wellness consultant, recognized thought leader, and innovator who has led the implementation of wellness programming in more than 6,000 #foodservice establishments across North America.

In this episode of the FSD #podcast Onsite with FSD, we talk about the many different pieces to the #wellness puzzle, especially facing the onsite food service community, from perceptions of health to #fatphobia and unrealistic #bodyimage to making plans that are truly holistic in furthering the wellness of those we serve.

The Italian restaurant chain said it’s keeping prices low and doing more to promote value, including its bottomless breadsticks.

But it refuses to jump on the discounting bandwagon to drive traffic.
What are the restaurant industry’s biggest concerns right now?

Scott Redler, co-founder of Freddy’s and former chair of the National Restaurant Association, joins the #podcast to talk about the state of the industry right now.

We spoke with Scott at the National Restaurant Show in May. We wanted to talk with him about some of the bigger concerns in the industry right now, given regulatory efforts such as the $20 fast-food wage in California and other issues. I also wanted to talk about the overall operating environment, as many restaurants are struggling with weak traffic.

It’s a wide-ranging conversation with the co-founder of Freddy’s on A Deeper Dive, find the #podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube. #subscribe
Pat Cobe and Bret Thorn chat about a newly discovered Russian beer, how Sysco encourages innovation from small producers, and why Laurent Tourondel is the Energizer Bunny of the restaurant world.

Tourondel started as a chef in France, but has since operated restaurants in several U.S. locales, including New York, Philadelphia, Las Vegas and South Florida. His concepts run the gamut, from burgers to high-end seafood, pizza, tacos and inspired Italian.

Listen as the accomplished chef-restaurateur shares his journey and talks about what’s next. A bakery is in the works. But another French restaurant? Not so fast.

Melt Bar & Grilled, an Ohio chain that was featured on the Food Network and the Travel Channel, joins the Chicago concept Kuma’s Corner and other small chains running into post-pandemic financial problems.

The pandemic and its aftermath continue to victimize local chains, even those with strong reputations and national notoriety. Read more about them on our website, link in bio.
Dear Advice Guy,

I am sick of seeing a trash can full of bread and butter. It’s probably $100+ per night we waste. I’ve told my servers to ask if people want bread and butter and even if they ask and the guests say, “Yes,” it doesn’t always get eaten. Can we start charging for it?

How would you respond? Let us know! 👇 To hear what Advice Guy has to say, visit our link in bio. You can also submit your questions there as well!
